MS Thesis

Probable Potentiality of Liquefaction of Purbachal New Town

The research has been done under direct supervision of Prof. Asm Woobaidullah and Prof. Chowdhury Quamruzzaman. For this thesis Standard Penetration Test (SPT) data, groundwater table, peak ground acceleration (PGA) – 1.5 g, earthquake moment magnitude – 7.5 Mw, lithology have been used and “Edushake” software was used to calculate PGA at surface. Geomorphic unit map edited by GSB (2008) is used to have geomorphological data. Research has been completed with the result that study place is perfectly safe for development of a modern town as water table is low and sand is compact. Final result has presented in maps drawn in ArcGIS.

Research Assistantship

Geomatics and Geoinformatics Solutions Limited (GMGI Solutions Limited)
2016 - 2018
Research Assistant

In GMGI Solutions Limited I was touched to few GIS mapping program like Mass Dog Vaccination Program and Dengue Risk Zoning. My responsibilities were to managing GPS data and geographic databases, data were collected from fieldwork done by volunteers. Cleaning and validation, geodatabase management and creation, map creation for reports were also my duty. I was also responsible for designing data collection fieldwork such as preparing volunteers, ensure tools and their quality and estimate budget.

  • Preparing GIS data for use in ArcGIS mapping applications
  • Creating high quality cartographic products for presentations and campaigns
  • Checking data, tables, maps, and text for reports for consistency and accuracy

Work Experience

Center for Geoservices & Research (CGR)
Still from 2019
Geologist

Center for Geoservices & Research works on Groundwater Modeling, Resistivity survey,  Shallow Seismic survey, Geospatial Surveying, ArcGIS Mapping and so on. My responsibilities are to organizing survey, making sure every instrument is finely calibrated, controlling quality, preserving data and sending them to lab. Characterizing sediments and making log in SPT survey are also my job. Procuring of all necessary equipments, materials and maintaining inventory and ensure supply are on my shoulder too. I also responsible for safety measurement and keeping survey teams inspired in tropical weather.

Few Projects I Was Associated With

Dengue Risk Zoning

The aim of this project was to identify the dengue risk zones on the basis of the dengue patient data. It assisted the government in combating the dengue outbreak by alerting disease surveillance and other sectors about the risk zones and level of danger. The location of the patients was plotted on a map. Processed data was used to map the risk zones within Dhaka city. Map of the spatial distribution of the dengue patients and high risk zones were prepared.
For micro-level risk zoning, this initiative leads to a dengue drone survey and a dengue household survey. For a better understanding and monitoring of the dengue situation, a dashboard was created to visualize the dengue patient distribution and dengue risk zones.

GAS Line Mapping

A Gas Transmission Company Limited project where JICA was quality controller. We were asked to draw six pipe line map for previous ones were not so precise. In this project electronic pipe locator was used to locate pipe angle and GNSS RTK for taking GPS data. Six teams work on six different Gas supply line from Sylet and Chattagram to Dhaka.

Groundwater Modeling- Mirsarai

.It was a government sensitive project. Mirsarai Economic Zone has been proposed here and authorities wanted to know details about groundwater level and how much of them can be used for this Economic Zone in sustainable manner. Different type od survey has been done here along with resistivity and SPT survey.

Resistivity survey by SuperSTING R8

Research was being done and still is doing by Dhaka University Earth Observatory and Earth Observatory of Singapore in collaboration to study tectonic activity of Bangladesh in order to understand Earthquake potentiality of the region. SuperSTING R8 was used to draw resistivity profile in six regions by two teams.

Hydro-geological Survey Under Payra-Kuakata Comprehensive Plan Focusing on Eco-Tourism

This project work comprises of Hydro-geological and geophysical investigations, groundwater modeling, and water quality mapping. A groundwater flow model was developed using MODFLOW to simulate groundwater flow at various depths. Both quality and quantity analysis are done using a large range of dataset: lithology, pumping test, aquifer depth, water quality assessment, water levels assessment, water research potentiality, Aquifer characterization etc.

Mass Dog Vaccination

A dog vaccination program of Communicable Disease Control (CDC) of Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) under their National Rabies Elimination program aiming to vaccinate almost 70% dog population in Bangladesh and ensure zero rabies case by 2023. Locations of vaccinated dog are being plotted in a map to monitor and different colors is using to make it visualize that same area’s dog are being vaccinated for at least three times with interval. MORU Tropical Health Network is being in collaboration in this program from beginning and FAO suggest occasionally with their innovative quality controlling idea.

Undergraduate Fieldworks

During undergraduate four filedworks took place in different regions of Chattogram and Sylhet hilly area. Dip and strike were measured on bedrook to understand the orientation of folds and lithology was identified. Different exposed geological features such as parallel bed, cross bed, joint, unconformity, fold axis, microfold, pebble, ripple marks were observed with the help of the supervisors. With the data, were gathered in day time, in same day night a base map was being converted to geological map and litholog was being drawn. For further lab study rook samples were collected too and then samples were sieved in the lab to know lithology and composition in details. Sample also were gone through hot acid treatment to remove outer coating and studied under microscope.
